Dear Families,
Welcome to March! I'm so glad we've left February behind! However, it's hard to believe how fast the year is moving.
Mr. Bryan, our student teacher, begins teaching full-time this week. The only class he's not teaching this week and next is Social Studies. I will be teaching that for the next two weeks. He's been in our class since September, and he's excited to begin.
Thanks to everyone who sent in money for our ONE & DONE Fundraiser! Our class raised almost $400! Thank you, thank you, thank you! What I love about this fundraiser is that Centennial gets to keep 100% of the money, unlike all the fundraisers we've done in the past where we've kept 30-40% of the money raised.
The Georgia Writing Assessment is THIS WEDNESDAY. Students will test in their language arts classrooms, not necessarily homeroom. (Unless, of course, your child is in my language arts class.) Your child will need to come to homeroom, sign in, make his or her lunch choice, unpack, and then be seated in his or her language arts class by 7:40 am. We ask that families make every effort not to be tardy because students who come in after we begin testing will have to wait in the office until 10:30, have an early lunch, and then test during lunch, recess, afternoon classes, and activity. Thank you for your help with this!
School Events
Tues, 3/4 My homeroom library visit; Happy birthday Catherine!
Wed, 2/26 STATE WRITING ASSESSMENT! PLEASE do not be tardy!
Thurs, 2/27 Skate Country @ 6 pm
Fri, 2/28 Chick-Fil-A Biscuits, $2.50; Happy birthday Mr. Bryan!
SOCIAL STUDIES
(My homeroom)
I am teaching social studies for the next two weeks. We will begin studying Post WWII America up until 1975. This week, we'll be studying the following topics:
*All students will get typed notes for this unit. We are moving very quickly through this era as we get closer to the CRCT.
LANGUAGE ARTS
POW Topic: WE ARE FINISHED WITH POW FOR THE YEAR! We will continue to write essays in language arts classes. From now on, morning work will be different for each language arts teacher.
Morning Work
Students need to write 4 informational essays to be turned in on 3/10. They will have a list of topics to choose from. *Other language arts classes are working on a language arts packet this week!
The votes have been tallied... students who worked on Magazine A had the most votes! Both teams will get a rematch later on this month.
Monday and Tuesday of this week, we'll be getting ready for the State Writing Assessment on Wednesday. On the day of the test, we will NOT have language arts class.
On Thursday, Mr. Bryan will begin teaching Chapter 12 of Shurley English! We will test next week. Our main focus will be on pronouns and their antecedents, as well as patterns 1-4.
