Dear Families,
I hope you all had a FANTASTIC Spring Break! I enjoyed spending the majority of my week at home, doing a lot of spring cleaning. I was fortunate enough to spend two days of the week in Atlanta, visiting The Carter Center and hearing about all the good work that former US President Jimmy Carter is doing in the US and abroad. I met his lovely wife, Rosalynn, and even got a picture of myself with President Carter! Unfortunately, we couldn't have pictures with our phones, but I'm getting one mailed to me with his autograph. Hopefully I will get it before school is out! It was neat to meet a former president, however, and hear him speak about making positive changes in the world.
I have, however, attached one picture I took here on the blog. This picture was from the peace panel of Sudanese men who are working with The Carter Center to help negotiate peace between Sudan and South Sudan. Some of my students have read the book A Long Walk to Water about struggles in Sudan, so I was very interested to sit in on this session!
This week is a week of review in all classes before the CRCT which is NEXT WEEK. Please be sure your child is on time and not tardy next week for state testing.

*CRCT week: Please do not check out your student early on testing days. The afternoons will be full of fun, fast-paced review for the next day's test. Friday afternoon, my homeroom will be doing a fun painting project. We will be "loaning" our artwork to Elachee for their May 2nd fundraiser. All artwork will come home after that.

We are reviewing everything we've learned - from the Civil War until 9/11. Students will be pleasantly surprised at how much they remember! They have worked hard in SS this year.
Monday: Civil War & Reconstruction
Tuesday: Turn of the Century, WWI, Jazz, Depression, New Deal
Wednesday: WWII, Cold War, 1950-1975, Modern America
Thursday: Economics & Amendments
Friday: Geography
LANGUAGE ARTS
The students in my langauge arts class expressed a desire to review commas in compound and complex sentences, and they also want to review instances of either/or and neither/nor. We'll be focusing on review in the areas that the students want extra practice this week.
READING 1 and 2
HOMEWORK: Read 30 minutes every day.
Common Core ELA Standards
ALL LITERARY AND INFORMATIONAL STANDARDS
We will be reviewing all standards with the following stories this week:
"The Girl Who Discovered the Dinosaurs" (informational - nonfiction)
"Tortoise and the Hare" (literary - fiction)
"The Secret of Success" (combining informational and literary)
"Invitation to Lost Things" (poetry)
I will spend my time working with individuals as needed.
